The babies disappear. Some mothers lose their children in childbirth. Others, in hospitals. Many die and others are stolen. And they are sold. What the church calls "mysteries," we researchers call "DNA." I am fascinated by these cellular labyrinths. A woman approaches the old gate of an old convent on the outskirts of Madrid. She walks alone, wearing a black suit and a crucifix around her neck. She approaches the building. An inscription at the top of the door reads: "Thank you, Mother, for your children. Maternity Residence”. She is pregnant.
